We are using a new system this year that will allow us to use numbers 1000-3000 rather than our old system which started 19 years ago and has continued to grow. Your original number (what we are calling a legacy number) represents when you registered, for example, you were the 5277th rider to sign up over the years. A new rider this year would have received the number 21,023 (for example) since the numbers never recycle. In 2008, we will be giving out bike numbers to coincide with your new number (8-1287), the 8 simply references the year, 2008, and since the rider numbers started at 1000, you were the 287th person to sign up this year. Mostly it will be so we can match your new number with a bike number and so we aren’t so high in the number system for the new riders. You will still be able to use 5277 on your checks if you would like because it will be linked to your record forever.
