Special Ride with Team Courage around the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs
Training Ride Host: Aaron Bradford: abradford@hkh-law.com, Mobile (303) 809-9388
NOTE -- You MUST RSVP to AARON by NOON ON FRIDAY to JOIN THIS RIDE, AS WE MUST GIVE THE ACADEMY AN ACCURATE COUNT BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON. There may be media coverage of this ride, so it would be great to have a good turnout. Please wear your Wheels of Justice team apparel if possible. ** Team Courage is the handicapped sports team for Children’s Hospital.
Starting Time: The ride will start at 9:30 a.m. sharp. Please arrive early so that you are ready to ride at our start time.
Meeting Place: We’ll meet at the North Gate parking lot at 9:30 a.m
Exit at AFA North Gate exit, which is the next exit after Baptist Road southbound, then turn right into parking just before the guard gate. If the parking lot is full, It’s OK to create parking spaces over the curb at the approaches into the parking area. Please see the attached map.
Description:
Traffic is light on the Academy but we will need to ride single file at most times, except where the shoulder can accommodate us.
The perimeter road at the Academy is a 13 mile loop (aprox), but there are a number of interior connections to get just about any length you want. The place is very hilly, so twice around the outside is usually a pretty good ride. Once we’re all cleared in the gate, you can continue to ride additional loops if you wish. Team Courage usually plans for two, but ends up with one loop (or one plus a short one to get 20 miles).
Our planned route is counter-clockwise around the perimeter (N Gate/Academy drive, Pine Drive, Stadium Blvd), unless there is a strong north wind, in which case we’ll go clockwise (upper roads are more protected from winds than Stadium Blvd).
