*****PLEASE NOTE THERE IS IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT THE COURAGE CLASSIC AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS NEWSLETTER. PLEASE PRINT OUT AND BRING WITH YOU. ******
We’re almost there, Wheels of Justice!
1) Congrats on Our Best Week Ever ! That’s right, Wheels of Justice, in just one week, we raised over $32,000. Way to go! Our fundraising total now stands at: $155,915 and we are now almost $5000 ahead of our good-natured competitors the Research Riders! Can we hold on to the Courage Classic’s #1 spot? The answer is really up to each and every one of us. If we keep this kind of momentum going, anything is possible. Plus, the “horserace” in fundraising, has generated even more $$ for Children’s as other teams get determined to stay ahead of us! In a photo-finish, how great would it be to be at the front of the breakaway group?
As you get ready to head out to Copper Mountain, this is the perfect time to send another email to your contacts, letting them know that you’re on the verge of this great physical challenge and that you’ll hope they’ll contribute to help Children’s Hospital overcome their financial challenges in helping sick kids. Please, please, please take a moment now to send a round of emails to your contacts let them know how exceited you are to ride for Children’s, how much you’ve trained and how much the docs and kids at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders need us!
2) Fundraising Continues Until September 1! Don’t forget that after we hit that finish line at Leadville on Monday, we will still be in fundraising mode until the end of August! So please send follow-up emails after the ride to let your contacts know what a great event it was and how convinced you are that Children’s Hospital is a worthy cause. Maybe you’ll even have an inspirational story to tell either about meeting someone connected to Children’s or how you survived 157 miles in the Rockies. So it ain’t over till it’s over on Sept. 1st!
3) 2009 WoJ SWAG at the Courage Classic: The sleeveless jerseys have finally arrived! So if you ordered one and want to pick it up before the ride (or if you need to pick up other apparel that you pre-ordered based on a fundraising commitment which you have met, I will be at the INCLINE RESTAURANT AT COPPER MOUNTAIN ON FRIDAY NIGHT FROM 7-9PM, and you can pick up your pre-ordered apparel from me there. Otherwise, you can pick-up pre-ordered apparel at the WoJ Party at the Storm King restaurant from 2-6pm on Sunday.
4) PAST YEARS’ WOJ APPAREL: A limited number of jerseys, shorts and hats from previous years will be available for sale at the WoJ Party on Sunday. All proceeds will benefit Children’s. 2009 apparel will not be for sale, as it’s ordered only as a fundraising incentive for the current team.
5) Many thanks to our incredible 2009 Wheels of Justice team sponsors we really couldn’t do this without their generous support!
*****IMPORTANT COURAGE CLASSIC INFO: PLEASE READ AND BRING WITH YOU TO COPPER!
A) Safety & Sportsmanship at the Courage Classic -- The Courage Classic is an amazing, fun and inspirational event! BUT IT'S NOT A RACE! Last year we had ZERO WOJ INJURIES! (unlike 2007 when we had 3 riders go down). We all know that this can happen to any of us at any time when we ride this type of terrain and conditions -- but we'll help our odds by taking it easy, always signaling or announcing intentions to turn, slow or stop and being super-aware of all those around us. Remember, our goal this year again is ZERO WoJ injuries. Let's all do our part.
Also please remember to be extra courteous and supportive of your fellow riders on the Tour -- we are all part of the Courage Classic's largest team, we have the coolest swag, and we're known as "the Lawyers' Team" (even though we have soooo many wonderful non-lawyers), so people are pretty much pre-disposed to think we're a bunch of jerks. But, as we've done the last three years, let's surprise 'em by showing ‘em that we are actually the friendliest team -- Announce yourself before you pass by saying "on your left", give all others a wide berth, offer to stop and help those with flats or other problems and approach the whole thing with a BIG smile and a hug, if you can. Remember, you'll be wearing the Wheels of Justice colors, so in effect you are an ambassador for the Denver legal and business community. Last year, it was wonderful to hear so many great comments about how positively our team was perceived -- let's keep the love going in our 4TH year!
B) Please come to the Wheels of Justice Party at the Courage Classic: Sunday, July 26 from 2-6pm [NEW LOCATION !!]: Our party will take place at THE STORM KING RESTAURANT (just around the corner from INCLINE restaurant and just off Burning Stones Plaza -- also just across the cobblestone sidewalk from where we’ve had the party the last 3 years) We'll have burgers, dogs, beer, tea and lemonade for all WoJ riders and their families. We’ll take our team picture near our party at 4pm SHARP (WEAR your 2009 WoJ LONG-SLEEVED TRAINING SHIRTS or JERSEYS!!, else you will be tucked in the very back row) Just after the team pic, we'll be thanking our sponsors and all of the folks who have worked so hard to make this year a success.
C) TEAM PIC & TRIAING JERSEYS: BE SURE TO BRING YOUR LONG-SLEEVED TRAINING SHIRTS TO THE COURAGE CLASSIC, AS WE'LL ALL BE WEARING THIS FOR OUR TEAM PIC TO BE TAKEN SUNDAY AT 4PM. Please wear these shirts when walking around at Copper, as we'll be able to identify each other and it’s great PR for the team.
D) Team Start/Pic: If you are up for it, please be ready at the start at Leadville and ready to go at 7:45am ON SATURDAY. We'll gather briefly under the START Banner to take a WoJ Team picture with those epic mountains in the background.
E) NON-RIDER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED SUNDAY FOR TEAM PARTY: IS YOUR SPOUSE OR FRIEND INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING FOR THE TEAM AT THE COURAGE CLASSIC?: We especially need volunteers at the Team Party on Sunday, starting with set-up at 1pm and with ONE-HOUR shifts continuing till 6pm. If you know of volunteers, please ask them to contact me via email.
OK, that’s it for now! I’ll look forward to seeing you soon at the Courage Classic starting TOMORROW!
Best,
Heather
