ROCK ON Wheels of Justice!

Molto bene Wheels of Justice!  Andiamo!

Another Good Week!!

Our team has now reached the $116,996  -- almost $12,000 in the last week:   Many of you heeded my call last week and started your fundraising, so now, 120 out of our 193 riders have raised at least more than $0 right now!  Way to go team!  Imagine what we could for Children's Hospital if 100% of our team decided to get actively involved in fundraising in the next week?  The sky's the limit as they say!

So if you're not on the bandwagon yet, I urge you to hop on NOW and join us in making life better for sick kids throughout the Rocky Mountain region.  Please don’t wait till the last minute or rest on your laurel by only aiming to pay the Courage Classic minimum.  The Wheels of Justice sponsors have enabled us to give you sooo much -- training shirts, cycling jerseys, parties, discounts and more -- this is all to inspire us to everything we can to do our very best in the fundraising we do for the Children's Hospital Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.  Plus the Courage Classic web tools make fundraising so easy -- just a few minutes of your time will make a HUGE difference for the kids at Children's.

Fund Raising Tips

CASE IN POINT -- SECRETS REVEALED BY WOJ'S #1 FUNDRAISER, BRADLEY SCOTT : Brad has already raised over $3700, so I asked him to share the secrets of his success with us.  Brad was very generous (like his buddies) in his response:

In April my wife Stefania, an Attorney at Ireland, Stapleton, Pascoe and Pryor, asked me if I was interested in doing the Courage Classic and joining the Wheels of Justice riding team.  I had this very nice road bike hanging in my garage for three years with only 40 miles on it.  Not only had I been wanting to seriously take up riding but I spent 15 years attending Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children for an issue with my hip and was excited about the  opportunity to raise money for a great entity like Children's Hospital here in Denver.  I have seen the good a hospital like Children's can do for people and wanted to step up and ride for the cause.  I am well aware of the funding it takes for a hospital such as Children's and have always had deep pockets myself for places that "take care of kids".

The same day I registered for the ride using the online system, I also used the tools available there to begin my fund raising efforts.  I set my first goal at $500.  I went through my contacts in my address book and the e-mail distribution lists I have for the four hockey teams I play on.  Before I knew it, I had 200 addresses of people I felt comfortable asking to "Support My Ride".  With he first mailing I exceeded my $500 goal that day.  I increased my goal to $1,000.  Before I knew it I had topped the $1,000.00 mark.  I increased my goal and sent the e-mail again and suddenly had exceeded $2,500.00.  I am proud to say I have accomplished $3,700.00 in fund raising to date with only one donor giving a generous $500.00 donation.

One donor from Washington DC posted the following comment on my page:
"Bradley -- Thank you for sending the reminder today. My nephew, who is now a junior in college and hoping to go to medical school, was diagnosed with a brain stem tumor when he was 4 years old. He underwent surgery at The Children's Hospital. What more can I say? Thank you for your good works, and I hope all is well with you. -- Kristy"

This shows that Children's Hospital has touched the lives of people all over the country.  As you can see, it took more than one mailing to receive this donation and that stands true for most of the donations.  At 8 weeks out I began sending my e-mail, massaging the message each week, to my remaining non-donors with the message "In just X more weeks I will be completing my ride of over .....".  With each weeks mailing my donations go up.  Most people want to give, they just keep saying "I need to remember to donate"...so send them your reminders.  That is the key to my fund raising success....weekly reminders!

BOTTOM LINE:  It's soooo easy, please don’t delay!! So, RIGHT NOW, please schedule 1 hour sometime in the next week to get your personal campaign started!

Party at the Courage Classic

Mark your calendar for the Wheels of Justice Party at the Courage Classic:  Our party promises to be the best ever this year and will take place at Zizzo's at Copper Mountain on Sunday July 27 from 2-6pm.  We'll have burgers, dogs, brats, beer and soft drinks for all in a lovely patio setting just off Burning Stones Plaza.  We'll be thanking our sponsors and all of the folks who have worked so hard to make this year a success.  PLUS WE'LL BE AUCTIONING OFF A FRAMED WHEELS OF JUSTICE TRAINING SHIRT SIGNED BY LANCE ARMSTRONG!! Also our team picture will take place near our party at 4pm -- I hope you can all make it in your latest WoJ cycling jerseys!!

New Riders

Do you know someone who wants to ride and fundraise for the Wheels of Justice but missed the registration deadline for the Courage Classic?  If so, please let me know, as we are hearing of a few WoJ riders who cant make it this year and we may be able to get a limited number of riders off the waitlist to replace them!  This week we welcomed 2 new riders aboard through this process.  Also Please let me know asap if for any reason you realize that you will not be able to ride the Courage Classic.  Last year, 10% of our 206 riders did not ride or fundraise due to injury, illness or change of plans -- as we all know, sometimes this just happens.  Unfortunately, this meant that 20 slots could have been filled by riders eager to ride and fundraise for Children's.  Now wiser this year, I am asking team members to notify me as soon you know of a change in plans, so that we can possibly accommodate riders on the waitlist.  Thanks for your help in maximizing our contribution to Children's Hospital!  -- THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT RESPONSE HERE TEAM -- WE ARE MAKING GREAT PROGRESS.

WOJ in the News:

Finally, please find attached a recent article on the Wheels of Justice from Law Week Colorado -- let's convert all of this great attention into real help for the kids, docs and families at Children's!

OK, many thanks to all and I hope to see you on a training ride soon!

All the best,
Heather
