Dear Team:

I just wanted to check in and say thanks once again for all of your amazing efforts on behalf of the Wheels of Justice and the Children’s Hospital Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. As of today the Wheels of Justice team has raised over $187,713 and retains the #1 team position. Way to go team!

In addition, our team made it through the Courage Classic safely and with plenty of graciousness to spare. People like you give both cyclists and lawyers a huge boost in the reputation department! I am so proud and grateful to be associated with such an inspiring and committed bunch!

I would just like to make one final plea: Please consider sending one last round of fundraising emails to your contacts who might be on-the-fence about supporting your ride. Contributions are still accepted by Children’s through August 31 (both on-line and off-line donations postmarked by that date, so we still have at least 10 days to do all we can to raise our total toward the $200K mark. Also, remember, that for some people the economic anxiety may have lessened somewhat since you first contacted them last spring. Plus, if you include a cool pic of yourself on the ride and an inspiring description of your expeience, you may just be surprised at how many donation you receive in the next 10 days. If each of us just makes a small extra effort, I think that we have a real shot and making a truly significant contribution to the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD).

To help inspire us to go that extra mile, here’s a note from Dr. Stephen Hunger, the Director of the CCBD – Please feel free to use this note in your follow-up fundraising emails:

Hi Heather: I want to thank you and all the members of the Wheels of Justice team for your support. The WOJ team raised about $250,000 last year and is over $187,000 this year. Your team has directed these funds to support the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at The Children's Hospital. The CCBD treats children, adolescents and young adults from birth until their early 20s who develop cancer or blood disorders. Support from the WOJ is critical to our mission to provide the best possible care for children and their families and to work hard to develop new therapies to improve outcomes. Over the past 40 years, the cure rate for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia has gone from less then 10% to about 85%. While this progress is phenomenal, there are many other types of childhood cancer where the cure rate remains under 50%. We also strive to offer the best family-centered care possible to help children and their families to work through very difficult times and achieve their life goals. Your support has helped to fund new research projects, helped promising young faculty members early in their career, and helped us develop a new wellness program. Without your support, we would not be in a position to develop these new programs.

Thanks again and best wishes,
Stephen P. Hunger, M.D.

So many thanks for your terrific effort in a tough year – please lean for the tape and give it your all till the very last day of August. We’ll all have a chance to gather again to celebrate and thank our incredible sponsors at Children’s Hospital in November for the Wheels of Justice Appreciation Party, so until then,

All the best,

Heather
