Buona Sera Wheels of Justice!
The Final Days Are Upon Us!
(at least for rider recruitment): Word on the street is that there are less than 100 spots (out of 2000) available in the Courage Classic. Will we reach 200 riders before the door slams shut? Right now, we have 172 dedicated cyclists/fundraisers on the team. Last year many people found out about the team too late and were begging to get in!! We were sorry to disappoint them.
Let's do everything we can to be the biggest team in the Courage Classic for the second year in a row! Why do we care? Because it will allow us to make the biggest contribution possible to Children's Hospital. Plus it'll make for a rockin' party at the finish line on Sunday of the Courage Classic.
SO, please take a moment right now to forward this email to any friends, family or colleagues who might consider joining us. Tell them that every rider receives a cool long-sleeved WoJ training jersey and those who commit to raise $500 or more get a terrific WoJ cycling jersey; those who commit to $1000 or more get cool WoJ cycling shorts, too. Please visit www.wheelsofjusticecycling.org and click on the link that says Sign up to ride for the Wheels of Justice team in the 2008 Courage Classic.
If you didn’t get today's email with instructions on how to order WoJ apparel on-line, please email Alan at agarber@gmail.com You can also order at the Kick-Off Party where we will have sizing sets for you to try on. All orders must be in by Friday, May 16th.
Training Ride
Wheels of Justice Training Ride this Sunday May 11th! (changed to Sunday due to better weather -- high of 72 is predicted)
First, many thanks to the many riders who showed up for last week's Highlands/Lookout Mtn Ride. We had a blast together and hung out with beers and soda afterward. These rides are fun for riders of all abilities!
Sunday, May 11, 2008, NOON SHARP.
Coached Lookout Mtn Ride on Ascending and Descending Skills; with Squaw Pass Uber-Option.
Guest Coach: Megan Hottman -- 2007 Colorado State Time Trial Champion , cycling coach and Denver Athletic Club Spinning Instructor (and she's a lawyer, too!)
For more info on Megan, go to http://definedfitnesstraining.com/megan.html
Please note this info is different (updated) and supersedes what's on the WoJ website
Training Ride Host: Heather Purcell
Please RSVP by Saturday to Heather at hpurcell@levinepurcell.com, mobile phone: 303-641-5986
Meeting Location: Parking Lot at base of Lookout Mtn.; From US 6 in Golden turn west up Lariat Loop Rd (other side of US 6 is 19th St.); You'll see parking lot on left after residential section
Ride Summary / Distance / Ride Difficulty:
Coaching will start at NOON sharp, so be ready to roll. Megan will give instruction on both ascending and descending skills before we get started. We'll the go up and down Lookout Mountain (about 2000ft each way) with Megan giving feedback along the way. I can't stress enough how important it is to get coached on these skills before you hit those mountains in the Courage Classic - they are steep! Truly hearty souls can then head off with Megan and her group to ride Squaw Pass. (This will be out and back, so you can turn back any time).
Ride Description / Route: Maps/directions will be available at the start for the Squaw Pass option
Last week, many riders wore their WoJ jerseys from previous years and recruited other riders to join the team as they rode -- let's try this again for this week's training ride!
PleaseRSVP by May 6 to khammond@cobar.org for the Wheels of Justice Kick-Off Party on May 13th at 6pm at Delaney's at the Celtic Tavern in LoDo! You should have received an email invitation to the party last week. Feel free to forward the invitation (or this email) to interested friends. We will have the WoJ training shirts to distribute to registered riders at the party; plus a sizing set of the cycling jerseys and shorts for you to try on before you order. Please come by to ensure your apparel fits right this year, plus have some free beer and fun. What's not to like?
LIVESTRONG Day
It turns out that May 13 (Kick-Off party day) is also LIVE STRONG DAY -- Lance Armstrong will be in at the University of Denver from 2-4pm promoting his cancer foundation (as part of a 4 city one day US tour). We are working on getting a signed WoJ Training Shirt from Lance to auction off at our party -- no promises but keep your fingers crossed. Please see info below re the DU event.
