The Heat is ON, Wheels of Justice!

As the temperature rises in Denver, so does our team's fundraising thermometer.  The Wheels of Justice team has now raised $150,192  -- 75% of our $200K goal.  With about two weeks to go till the event, we will need two MORE weeks in a row just like last week (a $25,000 week!) to reach our goal by the time the Courage Classic starts.  Here are some stats:

  • 31 WoJ Riders have passed the magic $1000 mark in personal fundraising
  • Another 29 WoJ Riders have reached the impressive $500 mark in personal fundraising
  • 52 WoJ riders are showing $0 donations

Where do you land is this spread?  Are you leading the peloton, drafting behind the group or still looking at your bike hanging in the garage? At this point, IT'S STILL NOT TOO LATE -- PLEASE FUNDRAISE NOW!!  If you need any help getting started or drafting follow-up emails, please contact me via e-mail or phone and I will be happy to serve as your personal fundraising coach and concierge.  I have templates and tips galore to share with you!   The only barrier to our team achieving its goal is each of us somehow NOT finding the time to do our part -- so please ensure that each of us are personally committed to be the solution!

This week, I asked our #3 fundraiser, Paul Baker (he's now at $4230) to share his heartwarming story and fundraising secrets with us.  Here's his response in it's entirety:

I wish I had a story. I simply emailed my rolodex and asked for support. It is nice to have supportive friends.

I will top $5,000 before the race.

I look forward to meeting you as well.

        Thank you.

        Paul"

Friends, this is what I would call a "fundraising haiku" -- devastating in its simplicity.  No magic to it, Paul is saying -- just enter your contacts' email addresses and hit send, ma'am.  All there is to it.  We hear it every week from our top fundraisers -- "It's so easy to fundraise for this great cause -- all I did was take a few minutes to enter some email addresses and personalize a template email.  Next thing I knew, I had raised X thousand dollars."  Please make this YOUR story, too!

Remember: the kids, families, doctors and nurses at the Children's Hospital Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders are counting on us!  Plus imagine the fun we'll have at the Courage Classic if we're celebrating finally reaching our $200K goal while we are still at the event July 26-28

WOJ SWAG WILL BE MAILED EARLY NEXT WEEK:

Remember if you ordered a jersey, you committed to donate or fundraise at least $500 and if you ordered shorts too, you committed to $1000.  We are expecting all to abide by these commitments, as we ordered on reliance on your commitment (sorry, sometimes lawyer-ese is the only thing that'll do!).

Once you get your swag, wear it proudly!! BE SURE TO BRING YOUR LONG-SLEEVED TRAINING SHIRTS TO THE COURAGE CLASSIC, AS WE'LL ALL BE WEARING THIS FOR OUR TEAM PIC TO BE TAKEN SUNDAY AT 4PM.

Cool WoJ hats will be for sale at the CC and especially at our party for $22.  All proceeds go to Children's Hospital, so please consider buying this extra piece of swag.  Also don’t forget: the framed, WoJ training jersey signed by Kate Hudson's squeeze (aka LANCE ARMSTRONG) will be auctioned off at the Party.

MANY THANKS TO OUR INCREDIBLE SWAG SPONSOR, PRIMAL SPORTSWEAR!!

COACHED RIDE LAST WEEK was a great success!:

Thanks to all who turned out last week to learn ascending and descending skills from our coach Megan Hottman and our wonderful training ride leader, Tripp Lake of sponsoring firm Pryor Johnson Carney Karr Nixon.  Megan stayed extra long for a 3 hour WoJ coaching session -- then she went on to WIN A CYCLING RACE LATER THAT AFTERNOON! (see pic below)

She's off to Oregon this week for a 5 day cycling race.  Perhaps just as amazing, Tripp went home later that day to his wife, two kids and trial preparation! (no picture available)  ;-)  So many thanks to Megan and Tripp both for their time, effort and general kickass-ness.  Remember, our goal this year is ZERO WoJ injuries at the Courage Classic, so if you missed one of Megan's 2 team clinics so far, she will be teaching a paceline skills seminar on 7/20 (details to follow next week). Megan is available for private coaching sessions: see www.definedfitnesstraining.com

Party at the Courage Classic

Our party promises to be the best ever this year and will take place at Zizzo's at Copper Mountain on Sunday July 27 from 2-6pm.  We'll have burgers, dogs, brats, beer and soft drinks for all in a lovely patio setting just off Burning Stones Plaza.  We'll be thanking our sponsors and all of the folks who have worked so hard to make this year a success.  PLUS WE'LL BE AUCTIONING OFF A FRAMED WHEELS OF JUSTICE TRAINING SHIRT SIGNED BY LANCE ARMSTRONG!! Also our team picture will take place near our party at 4pm -- I hope you can all make it in your latest WoJ LONG-SLEEVED TRAINING JERSEYS!!

Housing:

Housing at the Courage Classic: If you don’t already have housing booked at the Courage Classic -- get on it quick!  There is another conference at Copper at the same time, so condos are scarce.  If you are looking for housing or have housing to share, please post on the Wheels of Justice bulletin board (there us a special housing section].  Also try the site, www.vrbo.com as condo owners post there available properties there.  Good luck to all!!

New Riders

Do you know someone who wants to ride and fundraise for the Wheels of Justice but missed the registration deadline for the Courage Classic?  If so, please let me know, as we are hearing of a few WoJ riders who cant make it this year and we may be able to get a limited number of riders off the waitlist to replace them!  This week we welcomed 2 new riders aboard through this process.  Also Please let me know asap if for any reason you realize that you will not be able to ride the Courage Classic.  Last year, 10% of our 206 riders did not ride or fundraise due to injury, illness or change of plans -- as we all know, sometimes this just happens.  Unfortunately, this meant that 20 slots could have been filled by riders eager to ride and fundraise for Children's.  Now wiser this year, I am asking team members to notify me as soon you know of a change in plans, so that we can possibly accommodate riders on the waitlist.  Thanks for your help in maximizing our contribution to Children's Hospital!  -- THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT RESPONSE HERE TEAM -- WE ARE MAKING GREAT PROGRESS -- the early heads-up is really helping us.

Transportation

Transportation at the Courage Classic (and to/from): Also please use the bulletin board to post your transportation needs/availability.  Some are staying in Vail, Silverthorne, etc. and have expressed interest in carpooling.  We'll send info closer to the event about ride sharing to/from the start finish of the CC.
