Wheels of Justice Cycling Team

Welcome to the Wheels of Justice

Welcome to the Wheels of Justice – the cycling team from the Colorado business and legal community sponsored by the Colorado, Denver and Boulder County Bar Associations, as well as Denver’s leading law firms and businesses.  We’ll be riding in The Children’s Hospital’s annual Courage Classic, July 26-28.  Along the way, we aim to have lots of fun and raise lots of money for the kids, families and doctors at The Children’s Hospital Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.

In the past two years the Wheels of Justice have presented The Children’s Hospital with checks totaling over $314,000.  As we did last year, we’ll again be dedicating our contributions to their Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.  Last year’s tour raised over $2.6 million for Children’s Hospital, and we’re hoping that the Wheels of Justice Team contribution helps to make this year’s event the most successful ever.

Cool Stuff: As a 2008 WoJ member you will receive a long-sleeved, “Cool Max” type, team-in-training shirt from Primal SportswearAlso, all riders who commit to raise or donate at least $500 will receive a custom WoJ cycling jersey (to be delivered in July) from the great folks at Primal.  We'll also be hosting training rides every weekend during the season (starting in mid-April, plus coaching sessions, and bike maintenance sessions throughout the spring and summer.  We’ll be sending team update e-mails on these great events, and you can also track the latest information on the team web page www.wheelsofjusticecycling.com.

Our 2008 goals: recruit at least 200 riders and raise $200,000 for Children’s Hospital.  Your decision to register as a team member is a terrific first step toward helping us reach those goals.  Here are just a few other ways you can help right now:

  • Send e-mails to friends and colleagues encouraging them to also sign-up for the WoJ team.  It’s good to remember that non-lawyers and lawyers  are very welcome on the team and that kids often ride with their families in the Courage Classic (for all or part of the 3 day Tour).  Courage Classic is an incredible 3 day, 154 mile Tour, rather than a bike race, so the main emphasis is raising $$ for Children’s, while having a fun, healthy time in a beautiful setting!  So the event can be as tame or as challenging (taking on the Day 2 “Century Option”) as any of our team members would like to make it.  Feel free to post the attached flyer at your office.
  • ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO REGISTER EARLY – IT’S LIKELY THAT THE COURAGE CLASSIC WILL CLOSE OUT EARLY!  Last year’s event filled up with 2000 riders by June 1 for the first time in history.  In January 2008, the “Triple Bypass” (an annual 3500 rider event) closed out in just 10 days.  Clearly, the demand for great Colorado cycling events is HIGH, so we need folks to register ASAP in order to make our 200 rider goal.
  • Help us to recruit more sponsors:  So far, Denver law firms and businesses have donated over $55,000 to support our effort – the bandwagon is officially rolling!  If you have contacts at firms, corporations or vendors that you think may be interested, please consider asking them join our great circle of sponsors.  Upon request, I can provide you with additional materials that will help explain the excellent benefits available to sponsors.  http://www.wheelsofjusticecycling.com/sponsors.html.
  • Join us at the Wheels of Justice Courage Classic Kick-Off Party on Tuesday May 13th at 6:00 p.m. at Delaney's (next door to the Celtic Tavern in LoDo—1801 Blake Street, Denver).  We’ll have great food, beer, wine and fun, while learning about the best strategies for our fundraising as individual riders and hearing more details from Children’s Hospital on the life-saving programs we’ll be supporting.  Please RSVP to khammond@cobar.org for the party.

Please let me know if you have any questions, need more info or just have some ideas for the WoJ Team that you would like to share.

I’ll look forward to sharing some training rides with you and our fellow team members this spring and summer, and of course to sharing the beauty, fun and challenge of the Courage Classic with you in July.

Again, thanks for saddling up for the Wheels of Justice and Children’s Hospital!

Best regards,

Heather

The Children's Hospital Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders is the only pediatric-focused center of its kind in the Rocky Mountain region. The Center provides a full range of medical, surgical, nursing and support services for kids from birth to age 25 who have childhood cancers and blood disorders, such as hemophilia and sickle cell anemia. More than 600 patients seek treatment from Children's program each year. Because of the sheer number of children who are diagnosed with cancer, The Children's Hospital Foundation's Oncology Advisory Board actively raises money to support the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Every child who receives oncology and hematology care at Children's benefits from your charitable donations to the Cancer Center. That's because every donation we receive is used for patient care, education, research and advocacy-activities that help all patients.
